The broadcast room at St. Angela Merici Parish School has been used in the past as a studio for student-run broadcasts. These broadcasts would happen every morning and afternoon to signal the beginning and end of the day. It would consist of broadcasting news or updates about the school into the classrooms and a recording of them was uploaded to youtube. Due to staff layoffs and the COVID-19 epidemic, the broadcast room and team stopped being functional two years ago. Ever since then the room has been used for storage, leaving most of the equipment in disrepair.
My project will consist of three goals. One, to clear out the room, clean it, and paint some of the walls such as the green screen and maybe touch up some of the other walls. Two, install a combination of existing and new equipment to enable the broadcast to stream directly to youtube to create a more efficient system. The third goal is to document the use of video switches, audio, cameras, and streaming service for each broadcast job in a reference binder. I will also be making training videos and a slideshow to train the teachers at the school on the operation of the room.
On the first day of the project, I plan to strip everything out of the room to clean the floors, paint the green screen wall, and put a plaster on some areas where the walls were damaged. I would then set up the new cabinet, table, and put back the cameras. Lastly, I would screw in the new light fixtures along with replacing some of the light bulbs already in the room. On the second day of the project, I plan to set up the new computers as the old windows 7 computers have CPU issues and are vulnerable to attacks as the operating system is no longer supported. The next step is to set up the new microphones and to cable manage all of the wires with raceways to make the room more open and to create less of a hazard. On the third and last day of the project, my goal is to make sure that all of the new equipment runs smoothly so I can demonstrate on tape how to perform each job, which I will later compile into a slideshow and binder to teach the faculty and students who will be using the room.
