Welcome letter from Mrs. VanDyk

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your families are enjoying the summer! It has been such a privilege to be the 6th Grade Teacher at St. Angela Merici Parish school for the last 5 years, and it was a tough call for me to make a transition to become the Advanced Math Teacher. I will truly miss teaching religion and I enjoyed welcoming each 6th grade student to middle school in my homeroom class. However, I know that Mrs. McConnell will do a fantastic job in 6th grade. She is such a wonderful, devout, and hard-working teacher who sincerely cares for each child she teaches.

I am looking forward to my new position because it will allow me freedom to utilize more project-based instruction and strategies that incorporate technology. I am especially excited about being able to increase my involvement with Campus Ministry. Over the last two years I have been able to develop Campus Ministry into an extracurricular where students can develop into faith-filled leaders who practice stewardship and exhibit concern for others through prayer and fundraisers. Last year Campus Ministry went on a field trip, supported each other through hardships, organized student-lead prayer services at lunch, and raised over $3,000 for some outstanding causes. I look forward to more prayer services, fundraising efforts, and leadership activities as well as helping with school-wide liturgical events in the 2013-2014 school year. My favorite part of being the Campus Ministry advisor is to see the students create and carry out their faith-based ideas
and to witness them develop into leaders with strong Catholic values.

I would like to add that I plan on continuing to make myself available to students who are in need of assistance with math during my lunches, whenever possible. My new position should allow me the time to assist any student who has questions or needs help studying for upcoming tests or high school placement exams.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you or your student has any questions or concerns!

God Bless,

Mrs. Kara Van Dyk
