Weekend Wristbands
It’s time to order weekend wristbands for SummerFest 2012.  We will offer these special purchase wristbands to children enrolled in St. Angela Merici Parish School, their siblings and Alumni students.  The weekend wristbands will be sold for $65 each and are good for unlimited rides Friday, Saturday and Sunday for one individual.  Order deadline is Wednesday May 25th at 3:00 pm.
 
Daily Wristbands:  The cost is $35 each.  The daily wristbands are good for unlimited rides for one person either on Friday, June 1st 6pm-11pm, June 2 from 12 pm-6pm or June 3 from 12 pm-6pm.  The daily wristband can be purchased after all masses in the plaza or at the Novelty Booth on the day you choose to use it for the same price.
 
Pre-Sale Ride Tickets:
40% discounted tickets.  These tickets may be purchased after all masses in the plaza.  1 sheet=20 tickets=$12.00

BE A STAR!  SUMMERFEST KIDS LIP SYNC 2012
 
The children’s lip syncs will be performed Sunday, June 3rd starting at 12pm.  If you would like to participate, complete the form that went home in the yellow communication folder (extras are in the front office) and return by Monday, May 21st.  All labeled CDs are due to Irene Strother or Annie Nicoletti by Friday, May 25th.  
 
Student may practice their lip syncs on the school field, during snack and lunch starting, Monday, May 14th.  Make sure your Ipod players are charged and ready to go!
 
Under no circumstances should any practices take place on the church grounds. Please keep practices on school grounds only. Practices in the Parish Center Hall and church courtyard are no longer permitted. Thank you for your cooperation.

Disciples of the Month for April
 
Kinder: 
Isaac Carvahlo is a great inspiration to our class. He comes to school with a big smile and is always eager to learn. Isaac shows academic effort in all his subjects. He loves to participate in class discussions and activities. Isaac has been a kind friend to his classmates and is respectful to his teachers and supervisors.  
 
1st Grade: 
Michaela Padilla has been chosen as the 1st grade Disciple of the Month.  Michaela always has a smile on her face and is eager to participate in school activities.  She puts forth good effort in everything she does.  Michaela is a friend to everyone and is always willing to help others.  She treats classmates and teachers with respect in the classroom and on the playground.  
 
2nd Grade: 
Our second grade disciple is Connor Rice. Connor is a hard working student. He gives 100 percent in everything he does. Connor is a great example of a St. Angela Merici Student. His work is always outstanding. We are so proud to have Connor in our class. 
 
3rd Grade: 
Hardworking, thoughtful, friendly, respectful, reverent, responsible; these are just a few words that describe the 3rd grade’s disciple of the month, Matthew Remley.  Matthew exhibits these characteristics day in and day out.  We can always count on him to do the right thing.  We know that he will continue to be an example of good discipleship in and outside of the classroom.  
 
4th Grade:
The disciple of the Month for 4th grade is Colby Canales. Colby is the Disciple of the month for April because he represents the school motto of Reverence, Respect and Responsibility. He continues to follow the classroom expectations on a daily basis and has a great attitude towards school. Colby works hard in class to complete his assignments in a neat manner and takes pride in his work. He consistently remains on tasks and is very responsible when it comes to turning in his work. 
 
5th Grade: 
5th grade would like Jacob Avalos to be our Disciple of the Month for April.  Jacob is always smiling and always happy.  He greets his classmates and his teacher every morning.  He is excited to learn and has shown great improvement having his assignment pad organized and utilized.  Jacob is eager to participate in class and asks questions to clarify his understanding.  Jacob is an avid reader which follows our SLE to be a life-long learner.  Jacob truly lives the April Bible verse rejoicing and being glad in every day the Lord has made.  
 
6th Grade:
For 6th Grade the Disciple of the Month is McKenna Grossheim. McKenna is a hard working student who enjoys participating in class discussions and listens well to her teachers. McKenna has worked hard to turn in quality assignments consistently and when she sets goals for herself she works hard to accomplish them. McKenna has also demonstrated an increased amount of respect toward her classmates. Always willing to lend a hand around the classroom, McKenna is polite and helpful to her teachers. 
 
7th Grade:
The 7th Grade Disciple of the Month is Abraham McCloskey. Abraham has worked hard this year at improving his study habits and has become a dependable and responsible student. Abraham is intellectually curious and truly enjoys learning new content. He asks excellent questions which benefit his classmates. Abraham’s positive attitude resonates with others in his class. It has been impressive seeing Abraham improve his effort this year and experience success academically as a result. 
 
8th Grade:
8th grade’s April Disciple of the month is John Hall.  He has shown consistent effort in all of his school work and respectively maintained his conduct in the classroom. He demonstrates responsibility when he proudly plays for St. Angela’s sports teams and gives it all that he’s got. He is a very competent athlete and shares his abilities with others.  
 

 

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR is back to our SAM’s Library!!
 
On the week of May 21 the Book Fair will be open for our children during Library Time and Lunch.
The kids will have plenty of books that will encourage their love for reading.
We will have a great selection of books to enjoy during the Summer!!

8th Annual – “Helping the Families of our Wounded Warriors”
 
Please join me in providing funds for the needy families of our Military Wounded Warriors (Service Men & Women).  Many families fly in from out of the area to be with their wounded loved one at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.  The Pastoral Care Services  need the funds and convenience of providing them with their needs during the duration of their stay, with food certificates, hotels, transportation, etc.    This will ease the financial struggles and trying times that these families face.  Your financial support will be much appreciated by them.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS

 

Welcome back to school.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.  Now that we are back in school and settling into a school routine, please remember to clip and save your Campbell Soup Labels for Education. There is a container in the school office to collect your Campbell Soup Labels and box tops. The soup labels can be redeemed for items to improve our school.  Last year we saved enough Campbell Soup Labels to redeem for Super Spring balls for Kinder.  Two years ago, we were able to get Balance Weights for 1st and 3rd grades. Accumulated labels can be redeemed for sports equipment, science and math resources, as well as, art supplies.  When clipping your labels, please make sure you include the UPC (bar code) on the label.  A label without the UPC cannot be redeemed for points or products.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Curley at (714) 525-8033.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS

 

Welcome back to school.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.  Now that we are back in school and settling into a school routine, please remember to clip and save your Campbell Soup Labels for Education. There is a container in the school office to collect your Campbell Soup Labels and box tops. The soup labels can be redeemed for items to improve our school.  Last year we saved enough Campbell Soup Labels to redeem for Super Spring balls for Kinder.  Two years ago, we were able to get Balance Weights for 1st and 3rd grades. Accumulated labels can be redeemed for sports equipment, science and math resources, as well as, art supplies.  When clipping your labels, please make sure you include the UPC (bar code) on the label.  A label without the UPC cannot be redeemed for points or products.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Curley at (714) 525-8033.

Our BIGGEST Community Event of the year!!!  Please read..

 

 

 

On June 1st, 2nd and 3rd our school will be hosting one of the largest events in Brea.  We are hosting this weekend for our own children and our hopes to continue to enjoy our community.  We have many  volunteers from our own parish and ministries helping througout the weekend.  This is truly amazing knowing each of them are giving their own time for our school.

 

This weekend can not be run by a group of parents, it takes the whole school to make this successful.  At the beginning of the school year, each family signed a commitment sheet for all of our fundraisers. Thank you to all those who are making our kids smile by being committed during  this weekend.  We look foward to a successful one!!!

 

 

 

 If you do not work your four shifts at SummerFest, you will be fined $500 per missed shift.  A total of $2,000 for the weekend.

It’s time to order weekend wristbands for SummerFest 2012.  We will offer these special purchase wristbands to children enrolled in St. Angela Merici Parish School, their siblings and Alumni students.  The weekend wristbands will be sold for $65 each and are good for unlimited rides Friday, Saturday and Sunday for one individual.  Order deadline is Wednesday May 25th at 3:00 pm.
 
Daily Wristbands:  The cost is $35 each.  The daily wristbands are good for unlimited rides for one person either on Friday, June 1st 6pm-11pm, June 2 from 12 pm-6pm or June 3 from 12 pm-6pm.  The daily wristband can be purchased after all masses in the plaza or at the Novelty Booth on the day you choose to use it for the same price.

The children’s lip syncs will be performed Sunday, June 3rd starting at 12pm.  If you would like to participate, complete the form that went home in the yellow communication folder (extras are in the front office) and return by Monday, May 21st.  All labeled CDs are due to Irene Strother or Annie Nicoletti by Friday, May 25th.  
 
Student may practice their lip syncs on the school field, during snack and lunch starting, Monday, May 14th.  Make sure your Ipod players are charged and ready to go!
 
Under no circumstances should any practices take place on the church grounds. Please keep practices on school grounds only. Practices in the Parish Center Hall and church courtyard are no longer permitted. Thank you for your cooperation.

Description:

Serve as Director of Development for St. Angela Merici Parish School.  Initiate and manage projects and programs independently and in conjunction with the Principal and other leadership staff at the school.  Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, including public relations and communications programs, fundraising activities, alumni/parent and donor/sponsor development, grant writing, and implementation of a volunteer program to support development activities.  Independently cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, foundations and corporations.

 

Reports:

The Director reports to the Principal

 

Qualifications:

The Director must have an administrative background and successful direct fundraising and/or development experience.  Bachelor’s degree required. This person will have an understanding and appreciation of private/Catholic school  organizational structures.

 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is based on experience and training. Benefits are according to Diocesan policy as stated in the Diocesan Handbook.  The position is part-time and will involve evening and weekend work as necessary.

Some sites require kids to be older than 13 to have a profile, but younger kids set up accounts anyway.
 
Social networks keep kids connected to friends and provide a space for self-expression.
 
There are no guarantees of privacy (even with settings) — anything can be cut, pasted, and sent.
 
Inappropriate pictures, posts, or messages can result in damage to a kid’s reputation.

Description:

Serve as Director of Development for St. Angela Merici Parish School.  Initiate and manage projects and programs independently and in conjunction with the Principal and other leadership staff at the school.  Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, including public relations and communications programs, fundraising activities, alumni/parent and donor/sponsor development, grant writing, and implementation of a volunteer program to support development activities.  Independently cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, foundations and corporations.

 

Reports:

The Director reports to the Principal

 

Qualifications:

The Director must have an administrative background and successful direct fundraising and/or development experience.  Bachelor’s degree required. This person will have an understanding and appreciation of private/Catholic school  organizational structures.

 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is based on experience and training. Benefits are according to Diocesan policy as stated in the Diocesan Handbook.  The position is part-time and will involve evening and weekend work as necessary.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS

 

Welcome back to school.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.  Now that we are back in school and settling into a school routine, please remember to clip and save your Campbell Soup Labels for Education. There is a container in the school office to collect your Campbell Soup Labels and box tops. The soup labels can be redeemed for items to improve our school.  Last year we saved enough Campbell Soup Labels to redeem for Super Spring balls for Kinder.  Two years ago, we were able to get Balance Weights for 1st and 3rd grades. Accumulated labels can be redeemed for sports equipment, science and math resources, as well as, art supplies.  When clipping your labels, please make sure you include the UPC (bar code) on the label.  A label without the UPC cannot be redeemed for points or products.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Curley at (714) 525-8033.

Weekend Wristbands
It’s time to order weekend wristbands for SummerFest 2012.  We will offer these special purchase wristbands to children enrolled in St. Angela Merici Parish School, their siblings and Alumni students.  The weekend wristbands will be sold for $65 each and are good for unlimited rides Friday, Saturday and Sunday for one individual.  Order deadline is Wednesday May 25th at 3:00 pm.
 
Daily Wristbands:  The cost is $35 each.  The daily wristbands are good for unlimited rides for one person either on Friday, June 1st 6pm-11pm, June 2 from 12 pm-6pm or June 3 from 12 pm-6pm.  The daily wristband can be purchased after all masses in the plaza or at the Novelty Booth on the day you choose to use it for the same price.
 
Pre-Sale Ride Tickets:
40% discounted tickets.  These tickets may be purchased after all masses in the plaza.  1 sheet=20 tickets=$12.00

BE A STAR!  SUMMERFEST KIDS LIP SYNC’11
 
The children’s lip syncs will be performed Sunday, June 3rd starting at 12pm.  If you would like to participate, complete the form that went home in the yellow communication folder (extras are in the front office) and reutrn by Monday, May 21st.  All labeled CDs are due to Irene Strother or Annie Nicoletti by Friday, May 25th.  
 
Student may practice their lip syncs on the school field, during snack and lunch starting, Monday, May 14th.  Make sure your Ipod players are charged and ready to go!

Dear SAMS Alumni and Alumni Parents,

Spring sports are well under way, Easter vacation is over and there are only eight weeks left in the SAMS school year…that can mean only one thing – it must be time for Summerfest!  
It may be hard to believe, but thanks to your on-going support, this is the silver anniversary of this annual event that has put St. Angela and Brea on the map for the past 25 years.
To celebrate all of our parents and former students, we are inviting and encouraging your participation in the adult lip sync event that will take place on Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m.  The headliner for that evening will be announced on May 5, but, rest assured, it is someone we all know.  It promises to be another great night of entertainment.  
So, call your old air-band and mock-rock buddies and put together a new song or redo an oldie but goodie.  Just make sure you don’t miss out on all of the fun at Summerfest 25!  You can visit the Summerfest website at www.summerfestbrea.org and download a form there.

Diocesan Choral Festival- Tuesday, May 1st

 

 

DIOCESAN CHORAL FESTIVAL HELD AT ST. ANGELA MERICI PARISH

 

Tuesday, May 1st- St. Angela will be hosting the annual Diocesan Choral Festival.  A day of singing by 12 schools, including Mater Dei High School.

 

The day will begin at 9:00 am and conclude around 2:30 pm.  Please stop on in the church to hear some wonderful singing.  Our 5th grade class will be singing in the afternoon.

 

We need your help:

1.     Parent Volunteers for morning set up (8:00-9:15)  lunch set up  (11:30-1:00)

 

2.     Middle School Students:

5th Grade- 1 dozen donuts

6th Grade- 1 dozen baked goods

8th Grade- 1 dozen baked goods

 

Please bring the morning of the Choral Festival….

 

 

SummerFest Raffle

Raffle Tickets were mailed to all families last week, so check your mailbox!  We appreciate your support of the Raffle in the amount that is comfortable for your family. 

This year, ticket buyers have the opportunity to win up to $5,000!  Put your child’s name on the “Sold By” line on each ticket for their chance to win Cougar Cash worth $25!  The first drawing will be held May 2nd!  The sooner you return your tickets, the more chances they have to win!

 

 

Summerfest is rapidly approaching. It is June 1st, 2nd & 3rd.  Four-4 hour shifts are required by each school family.  

 

Below is the information on how to sign up for your shifts online.  Please sign up by Friday, April 27th. After that date online sign ups will be unavailable during the weekends due to parishioner sign ups and the number of shift choices will be greatly reduced.

 

Thank you for your prompt response!  It makes our job much easier when all families sign up ASAP.

Please understand even if you have confirmed with a booth chair your intent to work a particular booth, if they have not already signed you up-you still need to signup for those shifts online.  It is necessary for accurate record keeping and assuring the request.

Director of Development for St. Angela Merici Parish School

 

Description:

Serve as Director of Development for St. Angela Merici Parish School.  Initiate and manage projects and programs independently and in conjunction with the Principal and other leadership staff at the school.  Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, including public relations and communications programs, fundraising activities, alumni/parent and donor/sponsor development, grant writing, and implementation of a volunteer program to support development activities.  Independently cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, foundations and corporations.

 

Reports:

The Director reports to the Principal

 

Qualifications:

The Director must have an administrative background and successful direct fundraising and/or development experience.  Bachelor’s degree required. This person will have an understanding and appreciation of private/Catholic school  organizational structures.

 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is based on experience and training. Benefits are according to Diocesan policy as stated in the Diocesan Handbook.  The position is part-time and will involve evening and weekend work as necessary.

March Disciples of the Month

 

 

 
Kinder –
Jeffrey McEntee has been an outstanding disciple for the month of March.  He has shown Reverence, Respect, and, Responsibility which exemplifies our school motto of St Angela Merici Parish School. Jeffrey is reverend when we pray in church as well as in class. He respects his classmates, teachers, and supervisors and has shown responsibility in classwork and in practice preparation. Jeffrey is a great role model for our class.  
 
1st Grade – 
The 1st Grade Disciple of the Month is Isabela Gutierrez.  She is a kind and thoughtful student.  Isabela has a wonderful attitude about school and is always excited to learn.  She consistantly makes good choices and demonstrates Reverence Respect and Responsibility in all that she does. We are proud to have Isabela as our Disciple of the Month.  Congratulations Isabela!
 
 
2nd Grade – 
Our Second Grade Disciple of the Month is Sara Acosta.
Sara is always positive, encouraging and cooperative.
She always has a smile on her face and greets her classmates with respect.
She shows reverence in and out of the classroom.
Sara is very responsible when it comes to helping in the class.  She is a wonderful example of what a Disciple can be.  Congratulations Sara, We are proud of you!
 
3rd grade – 
Kian Nicoletti is third grade’s Disciple of the month.  Kian is a responsible and respectful student.  He works hard in all that he does.  Kian actively participates in class and demonstrates excellent leadership skills.  He goes out of his way to help both his classmates and teachers.  Keep up the excellent work!
 
4th Grade – 
The disciple at bat for 4th grade is Garret Guillemette.
Garret is disciple of the month for March because he has put forth great effort into his assignments and has been working hard to stay focused in class. Great job on that  double play Garett!  He has also had a positive attitude towards school and has been a good friend to others. Garret has shown great cooperation while working with classmates and has hit a grand slam when it comes to participating in class discussions.  Overall, Garret has scored a perfect game in 4th grade and should be proud of himself.   Way to hit a home run Garret!       
 
5th Grade-
5th Grade is proud to nominate Nicholas Toller for our March Disciple of the Month.  Nicholas is the perfect example of a level four disciple.  Nicholas is a quiet worker who gets all his asignments in on time.  He gives his assignments thought and provides interesting insights in his work.  Nicholas participates in class, offering pertinent information about whatever subject we are discussing.  Nicholas has a lot of interests and his broad base of knowledge comes through in all he does.  His work is a true reflection of this week’s SLE – a worker who values a quality education.  
 
6th Grade- 
The 6th Grade Disciple of the Month is Madeline Rosado. Madeline has worked hard lately to improve her study habits and her effort is being reflected in her grades. She has become more responsible with her assignments and frequently participates in class by asking excellent questions and adding insightful comments.  Madeline is polite and respectful to her peers and teachers. She always has an upbeat attitude and a smile on her face. Madeline’s increased effort is an example to her classmates. Keep up the good work, Madeline and congratulations!
 
7th Grade- 
Hunter Petris is Disciple of the Month for 7th Grade.  Hunter is involved in many activities at St. Angela’s and does a great job communicating with his teachers and balancing his busy schedule.  He brightens our day each morning introducing birthdays and the joke of the day during broadcast and has been involved in many other school functions through Student Council this year as well.  Hunter is always willing to step into leadership roles and does so with enthusiasm.  In March he did a great job introducing 7th Grade’s Stations of the Cross and represented 7th grade by speaking to WASC as well.  Hunter’s upbeat attitude is contagious and a welcome addition to any environment.  
 
8th Grade- 
Melanie Sellers is 8th grade’s Disciple of the Month for March for many reasons. She always has a smile on her face and is very positive about all aspects of school activities.  Whether she is turning in all of her practice/preparation assignments, studying for tests, or tumbling and doing back walkovers in the grass, she is a very dedicated and responsible student. Melanie shows respect by consistently focusing in class, paying attention to the teacher’s lessons, and can always be relied upon to follow through with a task. She demonstrated her reverence for God by beautifully portraying the Virgin Mary in 8th grade’s Stations of the Cross. Congratulations Melanie on a job well done.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS

 

Welcome back to school.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.  Now that we are back in school and settling into a school routine, please remember to clip and save your Campbell Soup Labels for Education. There is a container in the school office to collect your Campbell Soup Labels and box tops. The soup labels can be redeemed for items to improve our school.  Last year we saved enough Campbell Soup Labels to redeem for Super Spring balls for Kinder.  Two years ago, we were able to get Balance Weights for 1st and 3rd grades. Accumulated labels can be redeemed for sports equipment, science and math resources, as well as, art supplies.  When clipping your labels, please make sure you include the UPC (bar code) on the label.  A label without the UPC cannot be redeemed for points or products.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Curley at (714) 525-8033.

DIOCESAN CHORAL FESTIVAL HELD AT ST. ANGELA MERICI PARISH

 

Tuesday, May 1st- St. Angela will be hosting the annual Diocesan Choral Festival.  A day of singing by 12 schools, including Mater Dei High School.

 

The day will begin at 9:00 am and conclude around 2:30 pm.  Please stop on in the church to hear some wonderful singing.  Our 5th grade class will be singing in the afternoon.

 

We need your help:

1.     Parent Volunteers for morning set up (8:00-9:15)  lunch set up  (11:30-1:00)

 

2.     Middle School Students:

5th Grade- 1 dozen donuts

6th Grade- 1 dozen baked goods

8th Grade- 1 dozen baked goods

 

Please bring the morning of the Choral Festival….

 

 

SummerFest Raffle

Raffle Tickets were mailed to all families this week, so check your mailbox!  We appreciate your support of the Raffle in the amount that is comfortable for your family. 

This year, ticket buyers have the opportunity to win up to $5,000!  Put your child’s name on the “Sold By” line on each ticket for their chance to win Cougar Cash worth $25!  The first drawing will be held May 2nd!  The sooner you return your tickets, the more chances they have to win!

 

 

Summerfest is rapidly approaching. It is June 1st, 2nd & 3rd.  Four-4 hour shifts are required by each school family.  

 

Below is the information on how to sign up for your shifts online.  Please sign up by Friday, April 27th. After that date online sign ups will be unavailable during the weekends due to parishioner sign ups and the number of shift choices will be greatly reduced.

 

Thank you for your prompt response!  It makes our job much easier when all families sign up ASAP.

Please understand even if you have confirmed with a booth chair your intent to work a particular booth, if they have not already signed you up-you still need to signup for those shifts online.  It is necessary for accurate record keeping and assuring the request.

Summerfest is rapidly approaching. It is June 1st, 2nd & 3rd.  Four-4 hour shifts are required by each school family.  

 

Below is the information on how to sign up for your shifts online.  Please sign up by Friday, April 27th. After that date online sign ups will be unavailable during the weekends due to parishioner sign ups and the number of shift choices will be greatly reduced.

 

Thank you for your prompt response!  It makes our job much easier when all families sign up ASAP.

Please understand even if you have confirmed with a booth chair your intent to work a particular booth, if they have not already signed you up-you still need to signup for those shifts online.  It is necessary for accurate record keeping and assuring the request.

March Disciples of the Month

 

 

 
Kinder –
Jeffrey McEntee has been an outstanding disciple for the month of March.  He has shown Reverence, Respect, and, Responsibility which exemplifies our school motto of St Angela Merici Parish School. Jeffrey is reverend when we pray in church as well as in class. He respects his classmates, teachers, and supervisors and has shown responsibility in classwork and in practice preparation. Jeffrey is a great role model for our class.  
 
1st Grade – 
The 1st Grade Disciple of the Month is Isabela Gutierrez.  She is a kind and thoughtful student.  Isabela has a wonderful attitude about school and is always excited to learn.  She consistantly makes good choices and demonstrates Reverence Respect and Responsibility in all that she does. We are proud to have Isabela as our Disciple of the Month.  Congratulations Isabela!
 
 
2nd Grade – 
Our Second Grade Disciple of the Month is Sara Acosta.
Sara is always positive, encouraging and cooperative.
She always has a smile on her face and greets her classmates with respect.
She shows reverence in and out of the classroom.
Sara is very responsible when it comes to helping in the class.  She is a wonderful example of what a Disciple can be.  Congratulations Sara, We are proud of you!
 
3rd grade – 
Kian Nicoletti is third grade’s Disciple of the month.  Kian is a responsible and respectful student.  He works hard in all that he does.  Kian actively participates in class and demonstrates excellent leadership skills.  He goes out of his way to help both his classmates and teachers.  Keep up the excellent work!
 
4th Grade – 
The disciple at bat for 4th grade is Garret Guillemette.
Garret is disciple of the month for March because he has put forth great effort into his assignments and has been working hard to stay focused in class. Great job on that  double play Garett!  He has also had a positive attitude towards school and has been a good friend to others. Garret has shown great cooperation while working with classmates and has hit a grand slam when it comes to participating in class discussions.  Overall, Garret has scored a perfect game in 4th grade and should be proud of himself.   Way to hit a home run Garret!       
 
5th Grade-
5th Grade is proud to nominate Nicholas Toller for our March Disciple of the Month.  Nicholas is the perfect example of a level four disciple.  Nicholas is a quiet worker who gets all his asignments in on time.  He gives his assignments thought and provides interesting insights in his work.  Nicholas participates in class, offering pertinent information about whatever subject we are discussing.  Nicholas has a lot of interests and his broad base of knowledge comes through in all he does.  His work is a true reflection of this week’s SLE – a worker who values a quality education.  
 
6th Grade- 
The 6th Grade Disciple of the Month is Madeline Rosado. Madeline has worked hard lately to improve her study habits and her effort is being reflected in her grades. She has become more responsible with her assignments and frequently participates in class by asking excellent questions and adding insightful comments.  Madeline is polite and respectful to her peers and teachers. She always has an upbeat attitude and a smile on her face. Madeline’s increased effort is an example to her classmates. Keep up the good work, Madeline and congratulations!
 
7th Grade- 
Hunter Petris is Disciple of the Month for 7th Grade.  Hunter is involved in many activities at St. Angela’s and does a great job communicating with his teachers and balancing his busy schedule.  He brightens our day each morning introducing birthdays and the joke of the day during broadcast and has been involved in many other school functions through Student Council this year as well.  Hunter is always willing to step into leadership roles and does so with enthusiasm.  In March he did a great job introducing 7th Grade’s Stations of the Cross and represented 7th grade by speaking to WASC as well.  Hunter’s upbeat attitude is contagious and a welcome addition to any environment.  
 
8th Grade- 
Melanie Sellers is 8th grade’s Disciple of the Month for March for many reasons. She always has a smile on her face and is very positive about all aspects of school activities.  Whether she is turning in all of her practice/preparation assignments, studying for tests, or tumbling and doing back walkovers in the grass, she is a very dedicated and responsible student. Melanie shows respect by consistently focusing in class, paying attention to the teacher’s lessons, and can always be relied upon to follow through with a task. She demonstrated her reverence for God by beautifully portraying the Virgin Mary in 8th grade’s Stations of the Cross. Congratulations Melanie on a job well done.

What parents need to know about the movie “Bully”  (CommonSense Media)
 
 
Parents need to know that Bully is a no-holds-barred documentary that intimately portrays bullying victims’ daily lives. While it’s often heartbreaking and deals with tough issues like suicide, the movie addresses an incredibly important, timely topic — bullying — in a frank, relatable way that’s age appropriate for teens and relevant for middle schoolers if an adult is present to guide discussion. Bully’s strong language earned it an R rating from the MPAA (a rating that the production company chose not to accept, officially releasing the film as unrated), but none of the swearing is gratuitous. Like it or not, it’s a realistic portrayal of what every middle schooler and older hears every day. This gives the film veracity and credibility with kids, and it will justifiably shock parents.
 
Bully’s most challenging material isn’t just the language, but the suicides. Seeing grieving parents and friends could potentially be upsetting to teens and preteens, so they should definitely watch with adults. Bully also addresses the concepts of cutting, physical abuse, and more, but in a way that presents the consequences as well as the behavior itself. Victims’ parents are generally portrayed as supportive and loving, while school administrators come off in a much less positive light. Ultimately, Bully encourages kids to stand up to bullies, not stand by, and reinforces the fact that everyone can make a difference when it comes to this essential issue.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS

 

Welcome back to school.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.  Now that we are back in school and settling into a school routine, please remember to clip and save your Campbell Soup Labels for Education. There is a container in the school office to collect your Campbell Soup Labels and box tops. The soup labels can be redeemed for items to improve our school.  Last year we saved enough Campbell Soup Labels to redeem for Super Spring balls for Kinder.  Two years ago, we were able to get Balance Weights for 1st and 3rd grades. Accumulated labels can be redeemed for sports equipment, science and math resources, as well as, art supplies.  When clipping your labels, please make sure you include the UPC (bar code) on the label.  A label without the UPC cannot be redeemed for points or products.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Curley at (714) 525-8033.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS

 

Welcome back to school.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer.  Now that we are back in school and settling into a school routine, please remember to clip and save your Campbell Soup Labels for Education. There is a container in the school office to collect your Campbell Soup Labels and box tops. The soup labels can be redeemed for items to improve our school.  Last year we saved enough Campbell Soup Labels to redeem for Super Spring balls for Kinder.  Two years ago, we were able to get Balance Weights for 1st and 3rd grades. Accumulated labels can be redeemed for sports equipment, science and math resources, as well as, art supplies.  When clipping your labels, please make sure you include the UPC (bar code) on the label.  A label without the UPC cannot be redeemed for points or products.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Curley at (714) 525-8033.

All St. Angela families with boys in grades Kinder through 4th are invited to attend our Ice Cream Social this Sunday at 11:00. Boys can check out our air rockets, sling shots, and learn about the cool things Cub Scouts do. Parents can speak to our leaders and other parents to learn more about our award winning program over some ice cream. We will be at the lunch benches at 11:00 or after the 9:30 mass. Summerfest is rapidly approaching. It is June 1st, 2nd & 3rd.  Four-4 hour shifts are required by each school family.  

 

Below is the information on how to sign up for your shifts online.  Please sign up by Friday, April 27th. After that date online sign ups will be unavailable during the weekends due to parishioner sign ups and the number of shift choices will be greatly reduced.

 

Thank you for your prompt response!  It makes our job much easier when all families sign up ASAP.

Please understand even if you have confirmed with a booth chair your intent to work a particular booth, if they have not already signed you up-you still need to signup for those shifts online.  It is necessary for accurate record keeping and assuring the request.

Find your booth & times & sign up.

 

Be sure to put the person/s working shifts under “Primary Name”.

You will be required to put your user ID and password in each time you fill a new shift.

 

To edit/remove/change a shift click on “Volunteer Record”, log on & follow prompts.

1.  We have our neighbors very concerned about the speeding of some of our parents.  We need to SLOW down in the morning and afternoon while dropping off our students.

3.  Student Restrooms are ONLY for the students during school hours.  All parents, please use the office restroom if you are on campus.

Families may place orders online  at  www.catertots.com with an initial access code of  SAMPS7 which will assign your account to the right school for service. Online orders or changes are due no later  than 9:00am one day  prior to service. The cost per meal is $4.25 for a Junior portion and $5.00 for a Regular portion. We will be focusing on recycling, re-using, & reducing waste for the planet!
 
The following Earth Day Events are planned for 
Friday April 20th  
 
• Electronics Pick Up: AES Electronic Recycling will be picking up used electronics.  If you or your business have electronics to recycle please bring them in from 7:45 a.m.-9:30a.m on this day.  Part of the money earned will be donated back to S.A.M.!
 
• Bottle & Can Collection: Please bring in separated bags of cans and bottles to recycle 
 
• Waste Free Lunch: Please pack a lunch for your student that uses the least amount of waste possible  
 
 (Re-usable water bottles, Tupperware containers instead of plastic baggies, snacks that do not have excessive packaging)
Re-usable water bottles are on sale at the SAM student store for purchase
 
Students who come to school with a waste-free lunch will receive a Lorax themed prize for participating
 

 

 

Summer School Program at St. Angela...

 

An interest form went out before Easter and is due this Friday, April 20th.  If you are interested in participating in one of the three sessions, please return the form to the front office.  We will be able to offer this program if there is enough interest.

What parents need to know about the movie “Bully”  (CommonSense Media)
 
 
Parents need to know that Bully is a no-holds-barred documentary that intimately portrays bullying victims’ daily lives. While it’s often heartbreaking and deals with tough issues like suicide, the movie addresses an incredibly important, timely topic — bullying — in a frank, relatable way that’s age appropriate for teens and relevant for middle schoolers if an adult is present to guide discussion. Bully’s strong language earned it an R rating from the MPAA (a rating that the production company chose not to accept, officially releasing the film as unrated), but none of the swearing is gratuitous. Like it or not, it’s a realistic portrayal of what every middle schooler and older hears every day. This gives the film veracity and credibility with kids, and it will justifiably shock parents.
 
Bully’s most challenging material isn’t just the language, but the suicides. Seeing grieving parents and friends could potentially be upsetting to teens and preteens, so they should definitely watch with adults. Bully also addresses the concepts of cutting, physical abuse, and more, but in a way that presents the consequences as well as the behavior itself. Victims’ parents are generally portrayed as supportive and loving, while school administrators come off in a much less positive light. Ultimately, Bully encourages kids to stand up to bullies, not stand by, and reinforces the fact that everyone can make a difference when it comes to this essential issue.

TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE……

 

Dear St. Angela Merici Parish School Families,
 
As a school parent (Melita – 5th and Olivia – 3rd), parishioner, and member of St. Angela Merici’s Stewardship Ministry, I would like to ask you for your support in completing the goal of this year’s Pastoral Service Appeal (PSA) campaign run by the Diocese of Orange. 
 
This year’s goal for our Parish School is to increase the participation of school families in the program.
 
A quick analysis of last year’s campaign reveals that approximately 26% of school families participated in PSA; this is just a small fraction of families who are registered as “in-parish” and receive the tuition rebate from St. Angela Merici Church…  
 
A large portion of the money donated to PSA goes to the Diocese and the excess amount is returned to our Parish in the form of a rebate. This year, the rebate will be used for the up-keeping of our facilities and to support our 80+ ministries.
 
We share one campus, one church, and – most importantly – one faith. Our faith calls us to stewardship which is about the need to give in response to God’s infinite generosity. 
 
I encourage you to, please, go to the PSA link on our parish Web site (http://www.stangelabreachurch.org/psa.html). You will find Fr. Michael’s letter explaining the meaning of PSA, last year’s figures, and a link to the secure electronic pledge system there. 
 
No matter how much you pledge, your support for this year’s PSA program will clearly show that we – at St. Angela Merici – are truly a Stewardship Parish.

Process:
 
Each Member diocese has both an Elementary School and High School Commissioner. It is the responsibility of the respective commissioners to assist the school community in the preparation of a Self Study Document using an approved Protocol (Process for School Improvement for the elementary schools, and Focus On Learning for Catholic High Schools). These Protocols are criteria-based and lead the school to examine specific aspects of school life and the extent to which the criteria are currently being met. The school community then prepares for a three-day visit by an accreditation team composed of educators who are trained evaluators from other schools with educational expertise.
 
Visiting Teams:
 
A Visiting Team spends three days with the school community after review of the Self Study Document. During the visit, the team visits classrooms, investigates the written evidence of responses to the WCEA criteria, holds interviews with the members of the school community, and prepares a written report on its findings during the three-day visit. The Team also writes a recommendation of a Term of Accreditation based upon factors relative to the school community’s successes and growth needs.
 
 
The maximum term of accreditation is six years. However, a 
school community may be given a shorter term of accreditation if 
there are major concerns about some of the criteria being met to 
the extent necessary for a full six-year term.
