St Angela Merici Parish School Information- January 17th

St Angela Merici Parish Families,

I would like to take the time to clarify an email that was sent last week about Tuesday morning mass.  St Angela school is first and foremost a Catholic school and will always continue to educate the students about the theology and faith of catechism through prayer, religion classes, prayer services, Eucharist, and the liturgical seasons.  St Angela students will continue to celebrate our faith through school wide masses, Stations of the Cross, prayer services, morning school wide prayer, student lead prayer time in the Prayer Garden along with religion classes.

After our school wide WASC, and “The Year of Faith” we realized that our students need to be taught the parts of the mass, be more involved with the mass and come to an understanding at their level. We are excited to work with Father Michael and are blessed to be able to have teaching masses and prayer services every other week.  The students will be clustered in four groups:  PK/K, 1st/2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th -8th.  Each group will be able to have the mass come to them with the daily readings and Eucharist, for those who have received the Sacrament of the Eucharist or a prayer service for those who have not yet received their First Communion. Because Fr. Michael is willing to come over twice a week, each cluster will be able to have a level appropriate teaching experience twice a month,.   Not only does this help us reach our WASC goal of making the
Eucharist meaningful to our students but also helps us fill the Diocesan focus to of the Year of Faith.

It has been brought to our attention that some of our students are supplimenting the school weekly Tuesday mass in place of the Sunday mass.  After hearing some of these stories, the administration and faculty realize that the students need to be taught to be more involved with the teachings of Christ.  We understand change is hard, but we ask each of you to open your hearts and help guide us in the best decision for our children.  Each service is open to families and the schedule will start after Catholic School’s Week.  During the month of June, our liturgy committee will be meeting to re-evaluate for the school year 2013-2014.
Thank you again for your support and please contact Mrs. Windisch if you have any unanswered questions.
